Criminal Lawyers Canada is an independent directory published by Tynes Media. It is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. This page explains how its listings and guides are made.
Listings
Listings start from public business records. We keep practices that are open and that take criminal defence cases, merge duplicates, and drop practices that have closed. Each description is written from the firm's own website and public business record. It says what the practice does and where it works. It leaves out case results, awards, rankings and claims of being the best, the same claims the Law Society of Ontario's marketing rules (rule 4.2-1) caution lawyers against.
A lawyer is described as a certified specialist only when the Law Society of Ontario's Directory of Certified Specialists lists them, and the listing says when that was checked. We do not verify licences, insurance or the quality of anyone's work. Check a lawyer's licence in the Law Society's public directory before you retain them.
Guides
Statements of law come from official sources: the Criminal Code and other federal statutes as published on the Justice Laws website, the Ontario courts, Legal Aid Ontario and the Law Society of Ontario. Each guide gives general information, not advice on anyone's case. We do not predict outcomes or sentences, state lawyers' fees or say how long a case will take. Drafting uses software tools, and every statement of law is checked against its source before it is published.
Paid placement
Firms can pay for a featured card or a premium listing. Every paid placement is marked as paid wherever it appears. It never changes what a listing says, it is never presented as a ranking or an endorsement, and it does not buy coverage in the guides. Fees are flat; we never charge per enquiry or per client.
Corrections and updates
If anything is wrong, tell us. We review every correction and removal request and rebuild the site with the change. Guides are reviewed when the law changes. This policy was last updated on 2026-10-28.
